To Make Christlike disciples by Encountering God, Embracing Community, Experiencing Service, and Engaging our World.
The Great Commandment - Matthew 22:36-40 “Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart...soul...and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All of the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’”
The Great Commission - Matthew 28:19-20 “Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’”
The New Testament Book of Acts describes the formation and work of the Church. Based upon Jesus’ call to make disciples, we believe God has called His Church today to several key purposes described in Acts in order to effectively fulfill their mission and purpose in the world today.
To share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people who live within the vicinity of Ellicott City and help each one to become a Follower (not a Fan) of Christ by living out these four values:
Corporate and private worship is a vital element in the life of any believer.
Many today say “I don’t need to go to church to be a Christian.” But when we hear what the Bible says about meeting together for worship, it is obvious that it is God’s intention for believers to be in fellowship with one another. God calls the church to express its life in the unity and fellowship of the same Spirit; in worship, through preaching of the Word, observing communion and baptism, and ministry in His name. These corporate times provide mutual accountability and obey the clear command of scripture.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:24-25
When the church was established in Acts, the Scripture says, "Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts." – Acts 2:46.
Establishing a connection and sense of community is vital for authentic growth of the Christian life. True Christians are grown in the warmth of community where learned truths are applied to life. Three things characterize Biblical Community:
“Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results" – James 5:16 (Message)
“We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
”Share each other’s troubles and problems, and so obey your Lord’s commands.” – Galatians 6:2

God has given each person gifts and talents to SERVE in the church. We become more like Christ when we give ourselves in service in others in these ways:
Paul taught the Corinthians: "This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful." – 1 Corinthians 4:1-2.
"Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to." – Deuteronomy 15:10
"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."–1 Timothy 6:18
"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously." – 2 Corinthians 9:6
We believe that every person that is a Christian is UNIQUELY DESIGNED for service to Christ through their church and in the world we serve. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service.
"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We each have different gifts according to the grace given us." – Romans 12:4-6
Engage our World
"And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. " – Acts 2:47
We believe that Christians are to be salt and light in the world. Our lives and words should tell others about Christ and His Kingdom. We share the Love of God with Others and when necessary, we use words.
"Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But who can ask them to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells him?" – Romans 10:13
Why should a church be a Mission - not a Fortress?
Because the heart of God LOVES and actively PURSUES people.
"The Lord ...is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but wants everyone to come to repentance". – 2 Peter 3:9
"Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full." – Luke 14:23
Healthy things naturally grow, which is GOD’S WILL.
“Under Christ’s control, the whole Body is nourished...and grows as God wants it to grow.” – Colossians 2:19
