A Community on Mission (CoM) is a group of people that grow and serve together. It’s a take on a traditional small group that uniquely blends deep relationships with the call to serve others. 

Each CoM rotates between community gatherings and mission gatherings:

  • In the community gatherings, relationships are formed as participants share in life, faith, and growth. 

  • In the mission gatherings, heaven on earth is made visible through the service of a specific group/place. 

We currently have four Communities on Mission, and are always ready to add more!

Foster Care Support Community Leaders: Dan Jorquera and Cindy Sexton

Mission:
The mission of this community is to bring practical support to the doorstep of a foster family at its most vulnerable time, in collaboration with the mission of Foster the Family Baltimore (www.fosterthefamilybaltimore.org)

Community Gatherings: Every other Wednesday, 6:30-7:45pm in Ellicott City
The community gatherings for spiritual connection and peer support will take place at the leader’s home in Ellicott City. It will be loosely based on a Navigator's study called Growing Strong in God's Family. We'll have a potluck dinner as we discuss this material and catch up with each other. Children are welcome and childcare may be available.

Mission Gatherings: Every other Wednesday, 6:30-7:45pm at Crossroads
The mission gatherings will take place at Crossroads. Examples of serving include regularly making food for families, or helping out with childcare for foster children, as well as volunteering at special Foster the Family events.

Leaders: Brian & Maren Simons and Leland Chemerys

Mission:
The mission of this group is to provide whole-family service opportunities and facilitate spiritual growth through community fellowship and group study. Our gatherings alternate fellowship/study and service to support Fish of Laurel at Elizabeth House.

Community Gatherings: 2nd Sundays at 4:30pm in Ellicott City
On the 2nd Sundays of the month, we gather at 4:30pm at a member's home for a potluck-style family dinner followed by a time of spiritual growth for the adults. An activity and/or childcare will be available for children during this time.

Mission Gatherings: 4th Sundays at 11:00am at Crossroads
On the 4th Sundays of the month, we gather at Crossroads during the second service to serve side by side with our children packing bag lunches for distribution at Elizabeth House. Open to all!

Military-Connected Community Leaders: Korey Beach and Katie Kilby

Mission:
The mission of this community is to build stronger veterans, thriving communities, and an enduring legacy of service in and around Baltimore by fostering relationships between military and veteran families AND the local communities they transition into.

Community Gatherings: Every other Tuesday evening in Baltimore, MD 21230
This group will meet every other Tuesday night at Reveille Grounds (www.reveillegrounds.com) in Baltimore, MD 21230 for spiritual connection and peer support.

Mission Gatherings: Every fourth Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, MD 21230
On the fourth Sunday afternoon of every month, this CoM will support a monthly Baltimore Family Muster, modeled after the Baltimore Military Muster that began in 2017. Group members will help facilitate activities and build relationships with attendees of the Family Muster. These Family Musters promote access and exposure to the programs, resources, and opportunities that exist to serve and engage local military-connected families, while fostering a spirit of fun, purpose, and belonging. Open to all, regardless of military service or connection!

Crossroads Cares Community Leaders: Wilfred Kandie and Jen Roland

Mission:
The mission of Crossroads Cares is to address the loneliness and mental health epidemics in our community by coming alongside those who are struggling to offer prayer and support. Those in need, called "explorers," are connected to group members through a text messaging platform, which is utilized to initiate further conversation and begin the process of building relationships. Members will be assigned “explorers” to reach out to based on their availability.

Community Gatherings: Once a month in Ellicott City (Day & time varies based on group availability)
This CoM will meet monthly at a member’s house (less than a mile from Crossroads) for spiritual connection and peer support. We will be reading and discussing Unoffendable by Brant Hansen this spring.

Mission Gatherings: Once a month at Crossroads or online (Day & time varies based on group availability)
We will also meet monthly at church or online to share success stories, discuss challenges, and brainstorm ways to best minister to our explorers throughout the week. Open to men and women ages 18+. Meeting times will vary and will be determined by leaders and members of the group.
